Everyone likes a good comeback story. Better still, everyone likes a good love story, but more on that later.
A great example of the former from the watch industry is that of Czapek & Cie. A brand associated with the highest echelons of watchmaking two centuries ago, the famous name was resurrected in 2015.
Since then, the company hasn’t looked back. That includes a highly successful crowdfunding campaign (rising over 1 million Swiss francs), a win at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (it took home the 2016 Public Prize), and the 2017 launch of its second collection, an impressive suspended tourbillon with a second time-zone.
The latest from Czapek is an exclusive gift box set for those in love. The “Eternity” set includes two models from the brand’s successful Quai des Bergues collection, allowing couples to choose their dial style and case material, and then exchange their watches. It’s all about the “give and take” in a relationship, as I’m sure you’re all well aware.
The gift set comes with a choice of five models from the brand’s classic Quai des Bergues collection. There are four options with guilloché dials featuring a unique hand-made ricochet pattern. Colour options include aqua blue, sea-salt grey, rhubarb red, and rainforest green.

Besides the pleasant naming of the colours, I like the fact that we get something bolder from Czapek here. It has otherwise been largely traditional with its designs, and usually defined by muted colourways with white or gray dials and blue or gold accents.
For those looking for much of the same, fear not. The Eternity set is also available in a fifth option, the Quai des Bergues 25s with the tried and tested grand-feu enamel dial.

Since the watches are meant to be interchangeable, they come in a modestly sized 38.5mm diameter case. That means that the watches should wear comfortably on most wrists, both men’s and women’s.
On top of that, each set includes two extra straps in a smaller size for finer wrists. The straps can be swapped easily thanks to a special spring bar system, allowing for extra freedom and variety when accessorizing.

According to brand CEO Xavier de Roquemaurel, this set is about expressing the sentiment that “my time is yours, yours is mine... and time is eternal, as love can be."
The good news is that there is plenty of time to go around here. That’s because each watch is powered by the Calibre SXH1, a proprietary movement that boasts about 7 days of power reserve.
What is the price of this kind of love, you might ask? The expected retail price is 25,000 Swiss francs. For that customers receive a set that is made by special order, which adds to its uniqueness. It comes packaged in a Macassar ebony box (which is a type of wood – nothing to do with elephants here) that’s as classy as the watches themselves.
Yes, wearing matching watches for couples is a fine way to express commitment. My only question about this release has to do with the timing. Why not release the Eternity set around Valentine’s Day, or even Christmas? Perhaps Czapek has something even better up its sleeve for those occasions?
