culpture of Time”, the creation of the Swiss watch brand Around Five, is described by its creators Antoine Lorotte and Philippe Vallat as “a clock that sculpts time and evolves at every moment”. Through this piece, they propose a new reading of time based on a linear movement. Its curves are inspired by the course of the sun that appears and disappears behind the skyline throughout the day.
Perfectly balanced between form and substance, the clock distinguishes itself by its sleeker shapes. The relentless march of digital seconds is replaced by a poetic and architectural time. Its slow “analog” time invites contemplation and enjoyment of the present moment.
On a technical level, the apparent simplicity of “Sculpture of Time” hides intense hours of research and development work, along with iterative brainstorming between Lorotte and Vallat. One is an engineer, the other a designer. Antoine Lorotte and Philippe Vallat are both passionate about their work and attentive to each other.
Far from the usual cliché that represents engineering and design as close enemies, they worked hand in hand. Their discreet tandem has taken up numerous aesthetic and technological challenges for renowned watchmakers such as Hermès, Blancpain, Hublot, Frederique Constant, MB&F, Franck Muller, Dietlin, and also other companies such as Caran d’Ache, Nespresso, Alstom...
Their interdisciplinary know-how recognized for over twenty years in Switzerland and around the world, resulted in numerous patents and creations, several of which have won international awards. In 2015, Imperiali’s Emperador humidor, a treasure trove of ingenuity with more than 3,500 components, featured a unique humidification system and a mechanical whirlpool, widely acclaimed by the media.
In 2019, they launched the Swiss watch brand Around Five together and presented “The Original”, the first version of the “Sculpture of Time”, a Swiss made clock that offers a new reading of time based on a linear movement inspired by the path of the sun. “The Original” is distinguished by its pure and timeless design, which draws from its Swiss roots a sense of the essential.
In 2022, the brand will offer a collection of eight “Sculpture of Time” models. The concept, design, engineering, manufacturing and assembly are all made in Switzerland. The movement was developed specifically for this clock.
