he Récital 20 Astérium is Bovet’s official entry in the Astronomy and Calendar category for the 2023 GPHG.

The eye is immediately drawn to the star map that depicts the night sky with laser-engraved stars and constellations filled with Super-LumiNova on a dome of translucent blue quartz. For greater accuracy, a sidereal calendar drives the celestial display. A uniquely shaped hand indicates the 24-hour time integrated into the star map.

On the left, an equation of time display tracks the difference between the way we measure time on Earth and true solar time (a range of approximately +/- 15 minutes depending on the time of year). A precision moon phase display is incorporated into this indication.

Manufactured almost entirely in-house, including the hairspring and regulating organ, the Récital 20 Astérium is a tour de force of watchmaking innovation and spectacular know-how.

On the right, retrograde minutes provide a counterbalance. Inside the display is a power reserve monitor showing the winding state of the 10-day power supply.

At 6 o’clock, the patented flying tourbillon takes pride of place, with seconds displayed above. The complications continue on the reverse, which features a complete annual calendar as well as the signs of the zodiac, the seasons, solstices and equinoxes.

The incredibly complex 771-component movement is finished and engraved by hand with subtle, delicate chiselling on the surfaces of the bridges and plates. This artisanal decoration contrasts beautifully with the polished chamfers outlining each bridge.
