Orient Star M-Collections: from star clusters and nebulae to galaxies

The M-Collections, made up of comprising the M34 F7, M42 and M45, pay homage to the Messier Star catalogue, a diverse range of astronomical objects. The collections are part of a new direction for Orient Star, aimed at those seeking a truly special timepiece.

M

42 is a bright star cluster blazing in the constellation Orion. The constellation is named after the son of the sea god, Poseidon, and the collection has been designed for divers who want heritage-style dive watches packed with modern technology. Since the brand’s first diver model was created in 1964, Orient Star has continued to produce reliable, robust and beautifully designed dive watches featuring a range of cutting-edge technologies. This collection is no different, characterised by functionality and wearing comfort, making it suited for active lifestyles. All timepieces within this collection feature the in-house 46-F6 series F6N47 automatic calibre, which provides high accuracy and a power reserve of over 50 hours.

The Orient Star M45 collection is named after the M45 Pleiades star cluster, which has fascinated people around the world for many years. The star cluster is also known as the Seven Sisters, and is part of the open star cluster of Taurus, which can be observed in the eastern skies in early winter. With its white light tinged with blue, it has been used to mark the time and seasons, and its beautiful scenes are mentioned in a passage from the Pillow Book, a collection of essays written in the mid-Heian period more than 1,000 years ago in Japan. The collection includes a case with the signature extended lugs that have evolved along with Orient Star’s distinctive styling over the years. Roman numeral indices give the collection a modest, understated look, while the leaf shaped hands express the ceaseless, eternal flow of time.

Finally, the Orient Star M34 F7 collection takes inspiration from the star cluster Perseus, a constellation in the northern sky named after the Greek mythological hero and slayer of monsters. The Orient Star M34 models are characterised by a strong, sharp case as a key design feature, exuding originality with subtly coloured dials that express the dynamic and vivid hues of the aurora. As one would expect from the Orient Star brand, highly skilled craftsmanship and unique techniques are present throughout, demonstrating the very best of Orient Star mechanical watchmaking.
