The conviction resulted from a 10-month collaboration between authorities, Victorinox Swiss Army (VSA) and the VSA distributor in Singapore, FJ Benjamin, to crack down on street peddling of counterfeit watches. VSA worked with local law enforcement to orchestrate and subsidize a raid, during which 1,500 counterfeit watches with the Swiss Army name were seized. The watches had an estimated street value of US $22,500.
“Victorinox Swiss Army is pleased with the latest success of the anti-counterfeit program,” said CEO Sue Rechner. “We are determined to show our intolerance for this illegal practice.”
Earlier this year, Swiss Army Brands, Inc. (SABI), the US subsidiary of Victorinox, AG, seized 35,000 fake Swiss Army watches that were illegally brought into the U.S.
VSA, together with SABI, has an ongoing worldwide program to eliminate any threats to its brands and trademarks by unauthorized use or reproduction. In 1999, SABI launched a training program to educate U.S. law enforcement officials on identifying fake Swiss Army products.
