When the international trading company, Desco von Schulthess AG, launched the first watch models under the Maurice Lacroix brand in 1975, they already had many years of experience in this branch: This tradition-rich Zurich company, founded in 1889, had represented renowned Swiss watch brands primarily in the Far East since 1946. At the beginning of the 1960s, the parent company from Maurice Lacroix purchased a watch assembly facility in Saignelégier where high-quality timepieces were created for various brands (private labels).
Over time, Maurice Lacroix set up subsidiaries in Germany, the United States, and Great Britain and thus created the ideal conditions needed to achieve ambitious international growth objectives. In 2001, the watch manufacturing unit, previously a Desco von Schulthess AG division, was reformed as an independent legal entity; today, Maurice Lacroix is one of the few independent Swiss watch brands. With 220 employees around the world, Maurice Lacroix is among the most successful Swiss watch brands in national and international markets. It is represented in more than 60 countries at around 4000 selected specialist shops.
With the Cinq Aiguilles – its first watch developed in-house – Maurice Lacroix laid the
groundwork for the exclusive Masterpiece Collection in 1990 and made an important contribution to the renaissance of the mechanical watch. Since then, this successful collection has been synonymous for precious innovative mechanical watches that are a must for every collector. Among other things, with its enormous competence Maurice Lacroix has become the specialist for moon phase and retrograde indications. Maurice Lacroix marked a milestone in
2003 with the introduction of the Masterpiece Double Rétrograde: All of the additional functions in this attractive watch were completely developed in the company’s own technical office.
In order to properly celebrate these two important anniversaries, Maurice Lacroix, among other watches, will present two new limited models at this year’s BASELWORLD: the Masterpiece Lune Rétrograde and the Masterpiece Tourbillon Rétrograde. The Tourbillon Rétrograde marks a new highpoint in the history of the brand and the Masterpiece Collection. This Masterpiece in its beautiful platinum case is reserved for just thirty distinguished watch connoisseurs around the world; besides the classic tourbillon this watch stands out with its retrograde date and power reserve indications. This combination alone will make this Masterpiece a much sought after rarity. The Lune Rétrograde, strictly limited to 30 watches each in yellow gold or white gold, also has much to offer: Moon phase and day of the week indication, retrograde date and power reserve indication are what make it special.
Maurice Lacroix will concentrate more on its competence in mechanical watches and its own technical developments in the future. This is a sure guarantee for further promising Masterpiece Collection developments.
