Exceptional Collectors' Timepieces, Horological Tools & Documents

On the occasion of the Geneva spring sales, Antiquorum will be auctioning a remarkable collection including 252 highly important wristwatches, pocket watches and clocks. The sale is entitled “Exceptional Collectors' Timepieces, Horological Tools & Documents”. This sale of pieces of superb quality, will be held on Sunday 15 May 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Noga Hilton Hotel. The collection will exhibited in Hong Kong, May 5 - 7, and in the Antiquorum Showroom in Geneva from May12.

Among the pieces in this sale are several noteworthy watches of exceptional provenance. There is the Patek Philippe & Cie., Genève pocket watch made in 1890 in 18K yellow gold and enamel for Ferdinand I, King of Bulgaria, estimated at SFr. 20'000-30'000 / US$ 20'000 - 25'000 / € 15'000 - 20'000. Also in the sale is an important Breguet pocket watch made for the King of the Netherlands, estimated at SFr.60'000-80'000 / US$ 50'000 - 70'000 / € 40'000 - 50'000, and a Dent, London, minute repeating pocket chronometer made in the 1890s for Prince Orloff of Russia estimated at SFr. 12'000-16'000 /

US$ 10'000 - 15'000 / € 8'000 -10'000 and a watch once owned by D. Tolstoy, previous Minister of Culture, Russia, estimated at SFr 20'000-25'000 / US$ 15'000 - 20'000 / € 12'000 - 15'000, a gold pocket watch by F.J. Godon with a portrait of Charles IV the King of Spain estimated at SFr. 30'000-40'000 / US$ 25'000 - 30'000 / € 20'000 - 25'000, and an extremely rare Breguet & Fils, Paris, 1826, gilt bronze quarter repeating carriage clock with alarm that once belonged to Lord Gower. Estimation: SFr. 100'000 - 120'000 / US$ 80'000 - 100'000 / € 65'000 - 80'000.

The sale comprises examples of a wide range of timepieces, from simple but beautiful wristwatches to highly complicated timepieces such as the extremely rare Patek Philippe & Cie. ref. 2497 made in 1954 in white gold and a Patek Philippe & Cie., Genève Ref. 1463 made in 1954; Water resistant it is a pink gold, round button chronograph gentleman's wristwatch.

In the sale are also pocket watches such as the beautiful the “Chinese Peony” specifically made for the Chinese Imperial Court in ca 1810, made in the style of Jaquet Droz, attributed to Henri Robert, Genève, a magnificent and very rare gold, painted on enamel and pearl set pocket watch with quarter repeating on the bell and center seconds. The exceptional realism and depth of the painted on enamel flower shows that it is certainly by one of the best Genevois enamel painters. A watch decorated with a peony flower and sold by Antiquorum, Geneva on 18th April 1998, Lot 51, also belongs to this series. This watch is now in a private museum.

Other pieces in the sale include a superb triple bridge Girard Perregaux pocket chronometer with one-minute tourbillon estimated at SFr.150,000 - 200,000 / US$ 150'000 - 170'000 / € 100'000 - 150'000, and a unique set of 8 Patek Philippe wristwatches including 7 Pagoda (4 for gentlemen and 3 ladies), and 1, Ref. 5029 minute repeater wristwatch in pink gold, all estimated at SFr. 400,000 - 500,000 / US$ 350'000 - 400'000 / € 250'000 - 300'000.
