CORUM’s Golden Bridge at “Only Watch 2005”

October 2005

No fewer than 34 exceptional watches, all unique or the first pieces of limited editions, were sold by auction to distinguished clients on the 22nd of September this year at the Monaco Yacht Show, in the presence of HRH Prince Albert II of Monaco, as part of the “Only Watch 2005” project in support of children suffering from Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy.

These “masterpieces of contemporary watchmaking”, to quote the president of Antiquorum, organiser of the auction, had previously been exhibited in a number of cities around the world (Porto Cervo, New York, Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Geneva…), attracting hundreds of bidders from across the globe. The event was a resounding success, since the total sum obtained at the auction was a remarkable one million nine hundred seven thousand euros.

One such masterpiece was the Golden Bridge “Only Watch 2005” by Corum, a unique piece designed specially for this charity event. This exceptional piece was the new Golden Bridge model introduced earlier this year by Corum to mark its 50th anniversary. On display through the sapphire crystals of the 18 Karat white gold case is the magnificent baguette movement also in 18 Karat gold, delicately engraved by hand. This engineering marvel of a movement acts like a bridge thrown over two sturdy thoroughbreds facing each other head on. The hand painted dial of this unique piece features the artwork of one of Switzerland’s most famous contemporary artists, Hans Erni, whom at the request of Corum, created the original artwork. Corum’s master artisans reproduced the orginal artwork in miniature on the dial of the Golden Bridge “Only Watch 2005”. A signed reproduction of the original work by the artist Hans Erni was also offered with the watch.

Valued at 20’000 euros this unique piece was sold at auction for 50’000 euros.
