Corum has announced that British professional sailor, Conrad Humphreys will become an ambassador for Corum, the Swiss watch maker.
Following Corum’s return to the major sailing sponsorship arena as the ‘Official Timekeeper’ of Victory Challenge in the America’s Cup, the company has continued to build on the strong association that the brand has with the sport of sailing. Their reputation for maritime timepieces was built during the heady days of the Admiral’s Cup and they soon became known as the “Watchmaker of the Sea”.

With an overpowering desire to be at the very top of his field and with leadership, great courage and determination, Conrad epitomises the Corum signature phrase, ‘Unlock and Conquer’. This is also reflected in the strength of the new range of Admiral’s Cup watches unveiled at the Baselworld watch fair in April this year, examples of which will now be gracing the wrists of Conrad and his team.

Conrad, who in 2005 became only the fifth British sailor to complete the Vendée Globe solo round the world race, is the skipper of the Extreme 40, Be Blue Be Cool and competes in the Extreme 40 sailing series, the iShares Cup. He will also be competing in the Imoca Calais Round Britain Race with recent winner of the Velux 5 Oceans, Bernard Stamm in Cheminées Poujoulat II.
Michael Wunderman, President of Corum, had this to say about the announcement:
“We searched long and hard to find a sailor who would epitomise the Corum brand and we have found this in Conrad. Anyone who watched the DVD on his last Vendée Globe campaign will know that he has the drive, determination, tenacity and resolve to unlock his potential and conquer the challenges that he meets in his path. Extreme 40 sailing is at the cutting edge of the sport and Corum is an innovative watch-making company that utilises many of the materials seen in high performance sailing (carbon and titanium). We also see ourselves at the “cutting edge” of watch design.

“I would like to wish Conrad and his team every success in the challenges to come and assure him of one thing – now he is wearing a Corum timepiece he will never have to worry about being late for a start line.”

Conrad Humphreys comments:
“Corum is a fantastic brand that has been associated with the sport of sailing at all levels from the America’s Cup through to the recent Gipsy Moth IV circumnavigation. I look forward to wearing the brand as we embark on a whole series of extreme sailing races and competitions across Europe over the coming years.”
To mark the day of the announcement, Corum presented Conrad with one of the Admiral’s Cup Challenge 44 chronograph timepieces, available at a Corum authorized agent this summer. Conrad will continue to assist in the development of the Admiral’s Cup collection, helping to re-affirm their status as the yachtsman’s timepiece of choice.
