The continuing and fascinating saga of Century’s sapphire creations

April 2009

Century

For those of you who are not in the know – and for those of you who may have forgotten – Century watches are unique, not in the sense that they are different from other watches, which they are, but because each watch is carved from a single mass of sapphire, known as a megalith. This is then fashioned by master craftsmen who create the watch case, thus making each watch, by definition, unique.
In the case of the Prime Time Egos Chrono-graph GMT (42 mm), it is a twelve-sided case. To this is added a COSC-certified automatic movement with a dial set with 130 diamonds including 8 brown baguette-cut stones (0.73 carats) – lugs in 18 carat red gold set with 88 diamonds including 44 baguette-cut stones (0.98 carats). A date aperture is at 3 o’clock, and the sub-dials are in mother-of-pearl with the larger one showing the seconds and the smaller ones, hours and minutes. The movement is set on an 18 carat red gold case back that reveals for one and all to see the decorated bridges and oscillating weight.
This highly original timepiece comes with a brown crocodile leather strap with a deployment clasp in 18 carat red gold.

And the Dragon …
Now for the dragon – or to be more precise, the Dragon Stone Skeleton Master Imperial watch. First created in 1999, the superb geometry and powerful lines of the watch’s case soon ensured that it was Century’s emblematic model.
This latest model is an exceptional version with a dodecagonal-shaped sapphire with 36 facets equipped with a superb hand-crafted, self-winding, skeleton movement that offers an unrivalled spectacle of dancing of gears and a balance spring that provide endless moments of enchantment – all of which are choreographed by master artisans who engrave, pierce and sculpt the movement’s components by hand.
To perfect this intriguing silhouette, the case is paired with a bracelet of delicately articulated links and wave-shaped attachments. The ‘Feuille’ hour and minute hands are in blued steel and the watch is set into a case of 18 carat white gold set with 247 baguette- cut diamonds (11.40 carats) including 142 diamonds on the bracelet and attachments.
Touched by rays of light, this exceptional timepiece transforms into a work of art with shimmering reflections of light and colour. To dream, perchance to dream ...
