The Nomos Zürich watch that featured in our article on Nomos in our focus on Germany in issue 05/11 has been awarded the Good Design Award 2011 by the Chicago Athenaeum.
The watch was created by Swiss design legend Hannes Wettstein as one his last projects before he died.
“The Good Design Award is an internationally recognised prize with a long history. We are very pleased about it and about the American design scene’s appreciation of beautiful and well-made watches,” said Simon Husslein, Studio Wettstein chief designer.
The Good Design Award is the third design accolade for the Nomos Zürich watch, which also won the Red Dot Design Award 2010 and the iF Product Design Award 2011.
The Good Design Award dates back to 1950, when the prize was created by Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. in Chicago. Today it is awarded by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, and the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies in Dublin.
