We last looked at Magellan in our preview of this year’s Geneva Time Exhibition, promising new designs beneath the unique hemispherical sapphire crystal of the brand named after the intrepid explorer.
Magellan’s owner Mario G. Nargi has not disappointed and only one week after the Geneva Time Exhibition presented the new “Magelluna” model, which replaces the familiar depictions of the Earth with a realistic, hand-made and hand-painted hemisphere of our nearest natural satellite, the Moon.
The new Magelluna watch by Magellan |
The distinctive curved hands follow the contours of the Moon, littered with meteorite impacts that have punctuated its history. The case design of the Magelluna watch has been subtly adapted to fit with the darker aesthetic of the lunar surface. The steel case has a black PVD treatment and a new black rubber strap completes the look. A galvanic grey dial housing Roman numerals surrounds the Moon. Furthermore, the sapphire crystal is now fixed to a bezel that is screwed on to the case, rather than just being cement to the case as it was previously.
