Danish watch brand Obaku has made a new addition to its ladies collection. The minimalistic watch features simple lines and soft curves – with a hit of elegant sparkle – showing us that sometimes less can be more for bracelet watches.

Watches are slowly becoming a little smaller and a little less flashy these days. On point with that trend, Danish watch brand Obaku has added eight new models to its ladies collection in preparation for Baselworld 2016. All are decidedly contemporary and elegant in design, but the addition that we’ve really taken note of is the new V189 ladies series.

More often than not, watches with link bracelets are big, bulky and try to maximize on dial detail. The V189 series fights that pattern, developing a watch that is smaller and less flashy than what we’ve become used to in terms of ladies bracelet watches.

The new watch – designed by Obaku Chief Designer Christian Mikkelsen - embeds a 16mm three piece link bracelet around a simple, minimalist watch case measuring only 34mm. The result is an understated watch with soft feminine lines.

Adding a bit of sparkle - and no doubt helping to get some extra attention - there is also the mother of pearl dial, which hugged by 12 Swarovski elements that serve as hour markers.

For brand Director Henriette Arvin, the new watch is a perfect balance between the brand’s minimalistic philosophy and the demands of traditional bracelet watch lovers. And she’s very pleased with the result:

“We have spent a long time finding our appropriate reply to the ‘must have’ link bracelet trend. We had to create a design which would be within the clean, minimalist. Obaku world and still respond to the demands from the link bracelet lover. I believe we have done this with great success.”

And there’s even more reason to be pleased with the V189 series. The new additions will allow the Danish brand to be more competitive in the link watch market, something that was missing in their repertoire so far.

The series comes in three color versions - Steel case with pink dial, Rose gold case with white dial, and brown/rose gold case with brown dial - all of which have mother of pearl dials complemented by Swarovski elements.
