The maison has brought a bit of New York to Basel this year, presenting a diverse and sparkly Art Deco collection as homage to the city that never sleeps.

In many ways, Harry Winston is a New York City brand. Since 1932 the Big Apple has been home to the brand’s diamond emporium. Of course, Baselworld is not really about diamonds – although you’ll see quite a lot bling walking through the corridors.

The good news is that Harry Winston has become great at incorporating diamonds and other such bling into its distinct timepieces. For this year’s Baselworld showing, the brand has instilled its iconic collections with a pronounced Art Deco look, which, of course, has diamonds playing a starring role.

While we’re talking about stars, let’s just dive in with the Broadway Glasses by Harry Winston. Believe it or not, this luxury timepiece is actually a fully functional pair of opera glasses. Adorned with diamonds and panels of onyx, the glasses evoke a bygone era of the glamorous theater scene of old New York.

We also have the Emerald Time, an exquisite clock that’s more art than timepiece. It displays the time and date on one face and has a mirror on the other side. It also boasts a series of emerald-cut overlapping diamonds that bring a solid and architectural feel to the clock. And it’s practical too - the stand can be folded for easy transport!

In terms of something that can be strapped to the wrist, Harry Winston brings a strong presence at the trade show with its ladies’ collection. This year seems to emphasize the Avenue Collection, a family of timepieces that channels the energy of New York City. Of course, it’s named after New York’s Fifth Avenue, one of the most prestigious shopping street in the world and also the home of the brand’s flagship location.

Four new models of the Avenue Collection are on display at Basel, each infused with the classic Art Deco look. Just in time for spring, there’s the Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom model. The piece interprets the beauty of the Japanese Sakura season and recreates the blooming of the cherry blossom tree in diamonds and pink sapphires.

The Avenue C Mini Moon Phase tries to bring a bit of romance to the collection with a moon phase complication and a subtle vintage look. This is actually one of the smallest moon phase complications on the market today, fitting the very feminine timepiece.

For those looking for some practicality to go with their bling, there’s the Avenue C Dual Time equipped with a second time zone function for women on the go. Two separate counters - which are vertically stacked on the dial – provide easy reading of the local time and the time somewhere away from home.

Rounding off the collection is the Avenue Classic Automatic, which marks a bit of a milestone for Harry Winston. This is the first women’s timepiece in the collection to be fitted with an automatic movement. Among all of the novelties in the collection, this one might just be the most significant because it recognizes the growing number of women who appreciate a fine mechanical movement.
