The Elara diamond, a perfectly square shaped diamond with cut corners, received the first copyright registration for a gemstone cut. Copyrights are awarded by the United States copyright office for “creative authorship.” No other gemstone cut has been granted this recognition. The Elara diamond was launched in the United States two years ago and was internationally debuted at the Cannes Film Festival as part of a charitable event organized by De Beers and Miramax Films to benefit Amfar, the American Foundation for AIDS research.
