The Royal Oak: Nick Faldo special series

September 2002

THE ROYAL OAK
NICK FALDO SPECIAL SERIES

A legendary watch if ever there was one, the Royal Oak is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year. Created in 1972, this daring watch revolutionised the high-end sports watch segment by imposing steel as a precious metal and adopting an octagonal bezel featuring eight hexagonal screws. As years have gone by and new models have emerged, it has provided an infinite number of new variations on its high-performance theme. Today, the Manufacture is launching its latest Royal Oak model in tribute to golf champion Nick Faldo.

A tribute to the Europe's most titled champion
With a special limited series of 450 watches dedicated to the most titled European golf champion, the Royal Oak Nick Faldo provides a new interpretation of a legendary watch: a model whose oscillating weight segment echoes the texture of a golf ball and carries the signature of the famous sportsman. Moreover, each purchaser will receive an Audemars Piguet leather golf bag, embroidered with Nick Faldo's signature, as well as a set of ten clubs.
A symbol of the Audemars Piguet tradition of excellence and the sports values dear to the Manufacture, the Royal Oak Nick Faldo special series is a natural continuation of the Royal Oak line.

Playing with materials, playing with light
Playing with materials, the Royal Oak Nick Faldo special series uses 950 platinum for the bezel to offset the steel of the case and bracelet. This combination of metals creates a particularly subtle contrast, highlighted by alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces. 950 platinum illuminates the midnight-blue dial with exceptional elegance and refinement. Its luminescent Arabic numerals stand out around the centre featuring the “Grande Tapisserie” motif. Finally, as one would expect from a limited series, the Royal Oak Nick Faldo special series is fitted with a sapphire crystal and case-back. Water-resistant to 50 metres and driven by calibre 2225, a selfwinding movement with digital date display, it perpetuates the tradition of high standards faithfully upheld by the master-watchmakers of Le Brassus.
