" TAG Heuer, the reference in prestigious sports watches and chronographs since 1860, and Sarah Fisher (left), American, 21, the emerging american Indy Racing League (IRL) woman driver, have entered a long term collaboration agreement effective today and covering products development, advertising, promotion and public relations.
IRL is the pinnacle of american motoracing with the 500 miles of Indianapolis as the most legendary race of the 15 races of the yearly championship. The races are run on oval speedways at average lap speeds which can often surpass 350 km/h. Cars look very similar to Formula 1, with engines achieving similar power and performances. In 2003, IRL will become international with 16 races including one planned in Motegi, Japan.
TAG Heuer, the 4th largest luxury watch brand in the world has ever been inspired by sports to craft the most accurate, reliable and prestigious timepieces, from the 1st modern Olympic Games in the 20's to the FIA Formula One Championship today. TAG Heuer has worked closely with sports legends such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Steve McQueen, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Marion Jones, Mika Hakkinen, Jacques Villeneuve or David Coulthard. Together with them, TAG Heuer has developed and tested in the most demanding conditions legendary timepieces like the Targa Florio, the Monaco, the Link, the Kirium Formula 1 or the new piece “F1 micrograph” exclusively sold during the Grand Prix in the TAG Heuer boutique located in Formula 1 Paddocks Club.
Sarah Fisher, 21, is one of the most promising young driver worldwide. She was the youngest ever driver at the mythical Indy 500 race in 1999, when she qualified at only 19 years old. Now 21, she's competing in the top American IRL championship (Indy Racing League) driving a G-Force Infinity car of the Dreyer & Reinbold Team. She amazed the world this season, qualifying 8th at Indy 500 scoring the fastest ever lap ever completed by a woman at more than 360 km/h, and more recently at Kentucky 300, achieving for the first time ever the pole position and leading the race for many laps before finishing just a couple of seconds behind the winner.
At 21 Sarah is still the youngest Indy driver and one of the most promising worldwide driver for the decade to come - “If one woman will ever make it to Formula 1, it will be Sarah Fisher”, declared Jean-Christophe Babin, the President and CEO of TAG Heuer SA. “She's so talented, determined and young but still so experienced (she's already run virtually 30 IRL races, IRL being compared to Formula 1 in the USA) that, no doubts, she will further grow and become a great champion, blurring the artificial boundaries between men and women in motoracing. She perfectly embodies the daringness, obsession for performance and perfection of TAG Heuer and TAG Heuer is very proud to collaborate with her”.
