For the first time since China's accession to the World Trade Organisation, WTO, an import trade fair for luxury goods, jewellery and watches is to take place on Chinese soil. “Companies have realised that at this trade fair, Luxury China, in Shanghai, they can sell direct to China. For foreign exhibitors this has so far not been possible at any other sector event,” explains Dieter Dohr, Division Manager of Marketing at Messe MÜnchen GmbH. Many are keen not to miss this opportunity: so far over 200 companies from all around the world have registered to take part in this trade faire which takes place in Shanghai from 19 to 22 September 2002. They are all looking to make an early entry into this market which promises soon to be the third-largest market for luxury goods, after North America and Europe. Luxury China will take up all available exhibition space in the New International Expo Centre in the district of Pudong, in Shanghai.
The exhibitors come from 21 countries. This figure includes the national pavilions from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Korea, Sri Lanka and Thailand. suppliers from China and Hong Kong will also be putting on their own pavilions, where Chinese premium brands like Lao Miao and Chow Tai Fook will be on display. A full list of exhibitors can be found on the Internet, at www.luxurychina.com .
