Léman Capital Purchases the SFT Group

February 2002

Léman Capital, an investment company based in Geneva, has just purchased the Swiss watchmaking Group SFT. But who is SFT? This rather discreet organization, created in 1993, designs and produces quartz movements. In 7 years, apparently it has managed to become, the fourth largest producer worldwide, claiming an output of 80 million pieces annually. “With this quantity, we are classified after Seiko, Citizen and the Swatch Group,” states Victor Bruzzo, a one-time Swatch employee, Chairman of the Board of the SFT Group.
The movements produced by SFT are in the 'economic range' and are sold in Hong Kong. But SFT is also active in the finished watch sector and claims to have sold more than 300,000 of the 'Calcio, the Champion Watch' brand, a timepiece dedicated to football and sold principally to fans via the 120 federations and clubs under licence with Calcio.
SFT, which employs 210 people in Switzerland and France, is also in the medical domain and generates a turnover estimated at 100 million Swiss francs a year. Its declared ambition is to become “an independent watchmaking group that is an alternative to the larger groups.” An affair to follow.
