Timberland® To Launch Watch Line in Spain and Italy


After a three-year absence in Spain and Italy, Timberland is relaunching its new watch line this September in these two important markets. In 1980, Timberland chose Italy as its first international market for Timberland boots, the marquee product of the American outdoor lifestyle brand. The boots and the brand were an immediate success. Today, the brand remains strong as evidenced by the successful operation of over 50 Timberland retail stores.

In June, in Florence, Italy, the new Timberland watches were displayed at the Piti Huomo show held annually for retail apparel buyers. The reaction to this sneak preview was overwhelming. The Timberland watch brand will also be presented at the Vicenza watch fair, starting September 8, 2001 coinciding with the official relaunch.

In Spain, the Timberland brand is growing rapidly and the watches will be re-introduced in September as well. The plan is to roll out to approximately 150 doors. The stores are mainly jewellery stores and include the 5 Timberland retail stores.

Timberland's watch assortment has been completely updated and is strategically divided into the Outdoor Recreation, Rugged Casual and Work Casual categories. The update of the entire watch collection started at the 2000 Basel Fair and now, 18 months later, the line has been totally redesigned.

“We have been looking into re-introducing the Timberland watch line in these two markets for a long time, because the Timberland brand is so strong and continues to grow. But, we had to be patient while the product was updated to make it suitable for the fashion conscious Italian and Spanish markets. We are confident we have achieved our goal,” states International Brand Manager, Muriel Spoorenberg.

All Timberland watches are water-resistant to either 50 or 100 meters, have hypoallergenic stainless steel cases and casebacks, lenses made with scratch-resistant mineral glass and feature the Timberland tree logo etched in all crowns and casebacks.
