As the latest addition to a prestigious collection, this watch features a two-fold innovation: the use of new materials, and the Renaissance-inspired aesthetic design. With its characteristic audacity, Audemars Piguet is introducing an ethereal model to grace the legendary cambered shape.
Created in tribute to one of the two founders of the Manufacture, Edward-Auguste Piguet, a prince among watchmakers, the Edward Piguet collection offers constantly renewed interpretations of classicism. Identifiable thanks to a cambered case ensuring a snug fit on the wrist, it brings together some of the finest complications enshrining the skills, experience and originality of the master-watchmakers in Le Brassus.
Quartz and Galileo
A plate cut from a translucent natural stone: such was the aesthetic starting point for the Sapphire Tourbillon. And because the poetry of a stone is an intrinsic part of its character, Audemars Piguet chose quartz because its sheer limpidity reveals tiny inclusions. This aesthetic innovation is teamed with a technical feat, since the plate is cut out to house certain mechanisms. To facilitate this delicate operation, an exclusive technique has been developed to machine quartz to perfection and protect it from thermal shocks.
The ethereal character of the Sapphire Tourbillon is accentuated by the geometry of its bridges. Their
elegant design, inspired by Galileo's pendulum, echoes the Renaissance style. The first is in arcap, an
innovative alloy that precludes any oxidation, while the second (on the dial side) is in steel.
The simplicity of perfection
The new platinum case of the Edward Piguet collection, delicately cambered and decorated with two godrons, houses a manual-winding calibre. The transparency of the plate reveals the sophistication of the mechanisms such as the mobile tourbillon carriage or the small seconds. The technical excellence of this array of high-precision functions is highlighted by the hand-crafted decorations on all parts: chamfered, grained or polished, underscored by the light playing over their delicately crafted surfaces, they complete this movement with the simplicity of perfection.
Fitted with a quartz plate whose quality required the use of innovative technologies, based on the daring choice of the Renaissance style, the Sapphire Tourbillon achieves an impressive set of performances. It also adds an amazing new model to a collection that owes its legend to the sensuality of its curves.
