Jean d’Eve has ushered in a new age in the reading of time. With the hours divided into 4 three-hour counters positioned in each corner, time moves around the dial in an awe-inspiring relay race. Once the hand on the first counter has completed its three-hour leg, it springs back to its starting point after “handing the baton” on to the next counter, which then starts on its own brisk three-hour lap. And while this spectacle unfolds on the four counters – hence the name Quarta – the minutes tick away at the centre.
