European Watch Clock and Jewellery Fair 1992 BF 241
After two years of intensive development, IWC is introducing its selfwinding split-second chronograph dubbed “Doppelchronograph” at BASEL 92 It boasts a double seconds hand : a press on the 10 o’clock pushpiece separates one from the other : the first stops while the second continues to move. A second press releases the first to “fly back” and rejoin the second’s travel. This intricately sophisticated system conveniently provides split times. Its movement stores a 8-hour power reserve, is shielded against magnetic fields and includes a day and date calendar. Its styling is akin to that of the famed “Mark XI” (1948) and “Fliegerchronograph” (1988) : steel case water-resistant to 50 m with screw-locked crown; special outcurved sapphire crystal.
