European Watch Clock and Jewellery Fair 1993 BF 235
For its 125th anniversary, IWC has produced a limited number of its famed, generously proportioned so-called “Portuguese” watch dating from the 19k0’s. The company intends to turn out 1,000 in steel, 500 in pink gold and 250 in platinum. 50 presentation cases for sets of 3 watches bearing the same production number will be made available. The IWC “Portuguese Watch” is equipped with the famed “Calibre 98” hunter-case pocket watch movement, the oldest Swiss-made movement in continuous production up to the present day. Renamed Calibre 9828 for the occasion, it is an 18,000-v.p.h., 17-line (38 mm) design only k mm thin, with a seconds subdial. The styling is totally faithful to the original’s with a single useful exception : the transparent case back that provides such a fascinating view of the intricacies within.
