European Watch Clock and Jewellery Fair 1990 BF 605
The design of this china cased clock is based on a perfume brazier from the 1830’s, itself inspired by a hairdo sported by the French writer George Sand, perhaps the most influential woman of the mid nineteeth century cultural establishment. Its fruit and flower decor is painted entirely by hand. Eight-day mechanical movement with hour and half-hour strike. Handpainted enamel dial. Cut out and chased by hand, the watch hands depict a fable by the French writer Jean de La Fontaine “The Fox & The Stork”. (LAUGEROTTE, Les Breuleux “George Sand”)
