Watchmakers developed the mechanical clutch long before it appeared in motorcars. The flyback hand of a chronograph, for example, could not work without one : while to the eye the hand is motionless on the dial, its mechanism continues to count elapsed time. Even today, creating a wristwatch movement featuring a system of this kind is a technical feat. And Blancpain’s design, premiering at BASEL 88, has the added virtue of slimness : its selfwinding chronograph movement with flyback hand and date calendar is only 6.75 mm thick... (BLANCPAIN)
