European Watch Clock and Jewellery Fair 1991 BF 209
For nearly 200 years now, building a tourbillon, a device patented in 1801, has remained a technical challenge for any and every master watchmaker. Designed to cancel rate errors in the vertical position, th tourbillon features a mobile carriage containing the escapement components and the movement’s regulating organs. Blancpain is now introducing its own unique version of this intricate mechanism : a flying tourbillon with offcentred balance wheel (21,600 v.p.h.); the tourbillon completes one revolution per minute. It is built into a 3.70 mm-thin, 19-jewel, 8-day movement with power-reserve gauge and calendar. This magnificent timepiece is cased in platinum. (BLANCPAIN “Tourbillon”)
