Swiss Watch Fair 1964
A new extra-flat caliber which has all the advantages formerly enjoyed by much higher movements This is the breakthrough scored by the new 838 caliber of Jaeger-LeCoultre , and fitted to both ’watches shown here (the movement itself is shown at centre). Even with anti-shock mechanism it has a total height of only 1,85 mm, but has the security and ease of repair access hitherto enjoyed only by movements with 3 , heights. Its unusual new type of balance wheel, whose movement aids its rigidity enables maximum use of the spaces between the fixed parts of the movement. The distances between the balance wheel and the index (0,11 mm) or the pallets (14 mm) are the normal distances for standard calibers of 3 mm of height. In addition the anti-shock device is entirely incorporated within the body of the movement. Both models illustrated have gold cases. (JAEGER-LECOULTRE “838”)
