The GPHG turns 25 and passes the “1000 academicians” milestone

The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) is celebrating a double anniversary: 25 years of celebrating watchmaking excellence and five years of its Academy which has now passed the symbolic threshold of 1000 members.

F

ounded in 2020, the GPHG Academy unites passionate experts keen to contribute to watchmaking’s global influence. It plays a central role in the selection process for watches in competition. Operating by a co-optation process, it now has 1050 members, who each spring begin proposing eligible timepieces, subject to brands’ approval.

In summer, academicians nominate six finalists per category before participating in the autumn selection of the prizewinners, alongside the Jury – itself composed of Academy members.

For this 25th edition, the GPHG is reintroducing the ‘Mechanical Clock’ category. In addition, calendar complications are now included in the ‘Men’s Complication’ category. The Eco-innovation Prize launched in 2024 is being maintained.

The 25th GPHG awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 13 November 2025 at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices in Geneva.
