For several years, Doris accompanied her father as a private secretary on his horological trips around the world. One of her most vibrant memories was their crossing to South America on a transatlantic liner in the 1940s, where Hugo Buchser founded several watch magazines in Portuguese and Spanish (such as Elegância e Precisão in Brazil and Estrella del Sur in Argentina, the “ancestors” of today’s Europa Star magazine).

The wife of Gilbert Maillard, who ran our publishing house from the 1960s to the 1990s, she was particularly keen to see the company founded by her father remain in the family. And she was delighted with the many initiatives taken in recent years to revive the company’s heritage, including the digitisation of Europa Star’s archives.
