he Hommage II is the result of a collaboration between Laurent Ferrier and Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo. Following the Hommage I (a 12-piece limited edition made especially for Phillips Watches team members as well as the Phillips Watches Advisory Board), the Hommage II is a tribute to the step case timepieces from the 1940s.
Aurel Bacs, Senior Consultant at Phillips, and Alexandre Ghotbi, Head of Watches Continental Europe and Middle East, said: “The Hommage II is a true tribute to the 1930s, 40s and 50s, the golden era of watchmaking. We didn’t invent anything, clearly, but during our respective careers we have seen hundreds and thousands of vintage timepieces and we thought what were the elements that we particularly appreciated in these pieces, may it be a step case, flat bezel, polished and brushed surface finish on a case, snailed polishing of a crown, multiple tone dials with varying finishes, the shape of the hands and many more elements, and we brought them all together in one watch."
They added: "The watch is a fusion of designs from the first half of the 20th century we appreciated in Longines, Omega, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, IWC or Movado to name a few and added our own personal touch to create a watch with different elements that may have been seen separately but never together. It took us close to two years to finalize the design and hope that the community will appreciate the results as much as we enjoyed designing the watches.”
Other than the movement, all components were made especially for Phillips: the step case (which does not exist in the Laurent Ferrier collection), the dials featuring a discreet Fab. Suisse/Swiss Made double signature with snailed, opaline and circular satin brushed finishes, the hands, the crown and even the logo were made especially for this collaboration.
The new Laurent Ferrier handwound Calibre LF 116.01 micro blasted with a gilt finish reminiscent of certain pieces from the 1940s beats flawlessly inside the well balanced 40mm case in stainless steel.
The model is produced in only 32 examples: 16 with black dial and 16 with powder pink dial. The first pieces were spoken for by Phillips Watches clients, but a certain number will be offered for public purchase at the Phillips Perpetual boutique at a retail price of CHF 32,000.
