hether garish at a rave, noble in the Vatican, venerable in sports, dramatic on the catwalk, courageous in the bullring or in all shades at cherry blossom time in Zurich - purple will always be much more than just a colour. Purple is both aristocratic and popular. Purple is a timeless cosmos of emotions. Purple is the hue celebrated in the latest Maurice de Mauriac timepiece.
Massimo and Leonard Dreifuss, the “Watch Bros” known for their creative and bold Maurice de Mauriac timepieces, have added a new colourway to the kaleidoscopic palette of the independent watch company founded by their father. And appended another shade to the growing L3 Series featuring a minimalistic outlook authored by award-winning Basel designer Fabian Schwaertzler.
The new L3 Chronograph iteration is named Spheric Purple because it boasts not only a stunning gradient dial but also an exquisite colour that is not gender-oriented. Purple is an attitude that men, women and everyone can wear. Diversity is an expression of modern societies for which Maurice de Mauriac produces timepieces. Traditional forms, like those of a classic tricompax chronograph, are interpreted via a design language that is Bauhaus-inspired - and coloured in a hue crossing any previously sought frontier with casual grandeur. Even gender boundaries. Or mechanical preferences.
Those who want to have time in their own hands will take the manual-wound version. Those who trustfully surrender to time will choose the new automatic type. Both powered by movements meticulously prepared by Concepto for Maurice de Mauriac. But there’s more: the L3 Spheric Purple is available both in a brushed stainless steel case and in a DLC-coated stainless steel case.
Of course, the Dreifuss brothers also master green, red, blue, black and the other usual suspect colourways — not only in the L Series, but throughout the brand catalogue. Albeit always with a touch of irreverence that is usually missing in the traditional watch scene. But the true mastery of colour they celebrate is in the extremes, as previously demonstrated in the L3 Sees Red and the L3 Cherry Blossom.
The L3 Spheric Purple will enrapture Zurich, Switzerland and the world at the exact moment when cherry blossoms do so. In addition to the florescence seen in the city’s most emblematic streets and avenues, the blossoming will also occur at the brand’s headquarters located in Tödistrasse, very close to Paradeplatz.
The Maurice de Mauriac studio is blooming, filled with watch boxes turning the atelier into a sea of colours, all pointing to a peculiar one — the one scintillating on the L3 Spheric Purple dial. A rosé champagne glass, cherry blossom scent and all the warmth of the family-owned atelier will envelop each visitor as if there were no tomorrow.
Zurich, however, is not only in Zurich, but also in the whole world. Simply select www.mdm-watches.com and immerse yourself in the uniqueness of the L3 Spheric Purple. Or visit the Time to Watches exhibition during Geneva Wonder Week, between March 28 and April 2, to make acquaintance with the brand new L3 Spheric Purple and meet the Watch Bros.
