his year, Cuervo y Sobrinos celebrates the 85th anniversary of the Prominente, the brand’s most iconic watch, first released in 1938. To mark this event, the company is pleased to unveil a new limited-edition model, the Prominente Doble Tiempo.

Unlike most watches that are equipped with a dual time display, the Prominente Doble Tiempo features two independent movements. While a conventional GMT may sate the needs of some travellers, it is unable to accurately display the prevailing hour in locations that have 30 or 45 minute offsets. For example, the time in Kolkata is GMT + 5:30.

The Prominente Doble Tiempo model is capable of displaying two different times even when the offset is 30 or 45 minutes, a characteristic that makes it unique.

Consistent with the design of its forebears, this new Prominente is inspired by Art Deco, a decorative style that has strongly influenced the architecture of Havana, the historical birthplace of Cuervo y Sobrinos. To coincide with the release of this model, the company has introduced subtle improvements to the case, further heightening its notably elegant appearance. For example, the caseband now features more curvaceous flanks, bestowing a sensual mien.

Reminiscent of a Cuban sunset, the dial is suffused with salmon hues, accentuating its intricately formed guilloché surface. The Breguet-style hour and minute hands feature luminescent treatment, aiding readability in dim light conditions. Stylised Arabic numerals hug the periphery of the dial, denoting the hours. Both the hands and indexes are presented in gunmetal grey.

Two automatic Swiss movements beat within the case, the CyS 8125 calibre, based on the Sellita SW100, and the CyS 5025 calibre, based on the ETA 2671. The latter movement has been modified in-house in order to present the time in a 24-hour format. Each movement features a decorated oscillating weight, incorporating a fan decoration and CyS engraving.

The Prominente Doble Tiempo is available on a dark brown Louisiana alligator strap or stainless steel bracelet. The watch is limited to a total production of 138 pieces in recognition of the year the inaugural Prominente was released back in 1938.
