he Powermatic 80 automatic is a compelling example of fine Swiss watchmaking. In each of the debut DS-1 Skeleton models, the viewer is treated to close-ups of a matt grey frame holding gears, jewels and the balance spring in place, all easily visible through the curved sapphire crystal protecting the dial.

Oversized indexes are mounted on a broad band surrounding the round skeleton window, marking the hours with high-contrast accents to ensure perfect legibility. The Powermatic 80’s fascinating mechanics can also be admired through the transparent crystal at the back of the watch. The movement has a power reserve of up to 80 hours and features a Nivachron^TM balance spring. The latter’s anti-magnetic qualities and resistance ensure optimal accuracy and long life for this beautiful and intriguing mechanism.

Keeping light and clarity of design in mind, Certina presents the DS-1 Skeleton as a classic three-hander in stainless steel with three different dials and bracelets. A blue-dial version is worn with a polished and satin-brushed five-link stainless steel bracelet. For fashion lovers, a second variant in shades of steely grey features a Milanese mesh bracelet. Rounding off the premiere DS-1 Skeleton collection is a third version fitted with a classic dark brown leather strap, perfectly matched to the dial’s warm hues. Crisp and clear, the DS-1 Skeleton echoes the purity of the desert, gently sculpted by sand and wind.

All DS-1 Skeleton models feature the DS (Double Security) concept, which ensures enhanced resilience, shock- and water resistance thanks to a combination of seals, gaskets and robust materials. Engineered to perfection by Certina’s experts, the DS concept applies to all parts of the watch.

The new DS-1 Skeleton watches will be available starting in October 2023 from all authorised Certina retailers.
