Perrelet welcomes Turbine Ice Blue in carbon and titanium

The two new timepieces are inspired by the Grande Dixence dam in Switzerland, featuring elements that evoke the region’s hydroelectric power stations. The turbine is a crucial part of these stations, and the ice blue colour represents the surrounding high mountains and the different forms of water.

P

errelet, the Bienne-based watchmaking company whose origins date back to 1777 and which is renowned for its animated dials thanks to its patented Double Rotor and Turbine technologies, is expanding its emblematic Turbine collection with the addition of two new models. The inexhaustible creativity of the Perrelet team has resulted in the new Turbine Carbon Ice Blue and Turbine Titanium Ice Blue, inspired by the region of Western Switzerland and in particular by the famous Grande Dixence dam.

This imposing architectural construction, the result of a true human adventure, is nothing less than the highest gravity dam in the world. Situated at the bottom of the Val des Dix, 25 km south of Sion, the capital of the canton of Valais, the 285-metre-high wall holds a volume of 400 million cubic metres. This is equivalent to one year’s wine production in Valais multiplied by... more than 8,000!

To benefit from maximum power, the Cleuson-Dixence production plant is located 1,883 metres lower downstream (a world record). Grande Dixence is a supplier of high-power, clean and renewable electricity.

The Lac des Dix site serves as a base camp for a wide range of cultural and sporting activities, including plant visits, zip-lining, mountain walks, nature observation, gastronomy and leisure.

Perrelet’s two new timepieces incorporate many elements evocative of the Grande Dixence. Firstly, the turbine, which is a fundamental component of hydroelectric power stations and is also the undisputed star of the dials that have been identifying the “Turbine” collections since 2009. This is followed by a striking and bold aesthetic, dressed in an ice blue shade. A colour that evokes high mountains and water in all its forms: snow, ice, frost, creating a sense of peace and relaxation.

The Turbine Carbon Ice Blue combines a 44mm polycarbonate and carbon fibre case with a matt black DLC steel bezel and case back framing the sapphire crystal porthole.

TheTurbine Titanium Ice Blue features a 41mm diameter case made from Grade 2 black DLC-coated titanium. Both models are water-resistant to 10 Atm (100 meters/328 feet).

Two different sizes, two very light materials, allowing optimal comfort and the best wearability on any wrist thanks to their perfectly ergonomic shape.

Two colours define the look of these two models: ice blue and black. Skilfully mixed, they endow the watches with a unique and strong aesthetics.

The emblematic turbine, composed of 12 black anodised aluminium blades, which rotates at the slightest movement of the wrist, reveals the decoration of the lower dials and creates eye-catching optical effects.

The Turbine Carbon Ice Blue is distinguished by its lower-dial featuring a tone-on-tone depiction of the turbine in the model’s signature colour, which takes shape thanks to the polished/satin finish and materialises when the iconic spinning device rotates.

The “Californian style” ice blue chapter ring features an unusual mix of indices, Arabic and Roman numerals. Luminescent hour and minute hands and a blue central seconds hand complete the dial. The black leather strap with alligator pattern has ice blue stitching to match the watch.

A black hour track, a light blue lower dial decorated with black turbine blades and an ice blue rubber strap are the distinguishing features of the 41 mm case version.

The embossed applied Arabic numerals, mixed with indices, filled with Super-LumiNova and the luminescent hour and minute hands ensure optimal legibility in any light conditions.

Both timepieces are powered by the in-house P-331-MH automatic calibre, which beats at a frequency of 28.800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides a 42-hour power reserve when not worn.

It is manufactured by Soprod, a company owned and managed by Miguel Rodriguez, owner and president of Perrelet. Soprod is part of a watchmaking pole comprising no less than six factories capable of producing their own calibres in complete autonomy, guaranteeing Perrelet a high degree of independence in the creation of its watches.

Extremely reliable, the P-331-MH calibre boasts two different chronometry certifications issued by two prestigious independent institutions: the first having successfully passed the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) tests, the second was obtained by Chronofiable®.

The sapphire crystal porthole on the case back enables a perfect view of the refined finishing of the mechanism, which boasts a snailed mainplate, circular-grained bridges and the openworked, rhodium-plated and brushed oscillating weight on ball bearings embellished with the Perrelet logo.
