With the max bill Edition Set, Uhrenfabrik Junghans commemorate their working relationship with Max Bill, which began back in 1956. The timepieces included in the set combine two of the artist’s creative areas: his constructive paintwork and the puristic product design.
The matt silver-plated dial of the watch – in keeping with the premise “form follows function” – concentrates on the essentials and therefore exhibits excellent readability. The design is based on the watches specifically created by Max Bill in 1961. Luminous substance on the hands, the digits and the calf leather strap, all finished in a subtle shade of black stand out in clear contrast to the lightly coloured dial.
This puristic design language is also exhibited in the table clock – with a wooden case in black piano lacquer. Max Bill’s handwriting is featured on both timepieces, as well as on the back of the casing: aficionados will discover the piece variation 15 here from the artist’s “quinze variations sur un même thème” (fifteen variations on the same theme) series. Based on the fundamental geometric theme, Max Bill describes his artwork for variation 15 as “a spiral-like motion made up of circular rings”.
